1. Introduction
CitizenPrep AI ("the app," "we," "us") is developed by Jorge Roman. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our U.S. citizenship exam preparation application.
By using CitizenPrep AI, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information: your name and email address, collected at registration for all users (including email/password and Sign in with Apple)
- Personal profile data: date of birth, permanent resident since date, exam state, congressional district number, and House Representative name — collected during onboarding and stored to personalize your experience
- Usage data: questions answered, exam progress, and practice session results
- Analytics data: anonymous usage events to understand how the app is used (via Firebase Analytics)
- Subscription information: active plan level and in-app purchase history
- Advertising identifiers: IDFA and ad targeting data, subject to your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) choice
- Device information: device model, iOS version, and system language
- AI interview audio: audio recordings you make during citizenship interview simulation sessions. These recordings are sent to Google's AI services for processing. Session transcripts, scores, feedback, and results are stored permanently in our database to track your progress over time.
We do not collect health information, complete financial data, or content from other apps on your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Create and manage your account
- Personalize your study experience and track your progress
- Look up your congressional district and House Representative based on your exam state (via Congress.gov)
- Process your subscription and in-app purchases
- Display relevant advertisements (if you do not have an active subscription)
- Improve app functionality and performance
- Respond to your support requests
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
CitizenPrep AI uses the following third-party services, which may collect information according to their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob: advertising network — privacy policy
- Firebase (Google): database, authentication, analytics, and AI interview processing via Firebase Vertex AI (Gemini models) — privacy policy
- Apple (Sign in with Apple / StoreKit): authentication and payment processing — privacy policy
- Congress.gov API (U.S. Library of Congress): receives your exam state and congressional district number to look up your House Representative — privacy policy
Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including the United States, in accordance with the policies of our service providers.
5. Advertising
We display ads through Google AdMob for users without an active subscription. When you first open the app, iOS will ask for your permission to enable personalized ad tracking through App Tracking Transparency (ATT). You may decline; you will still receive non-personalized ads. You can change this choice at any time in Settings → Privacy → Tracking.
6. Audio Recordings
The AI interview simulation feature uses your device microphone to record your spoken answers. These audio recordings are transmitted to Google's Firebase Vertex AI service for processing and transcription. We do not store the raw audio files permanently. However, the resulting session data — including transcript summaries, scores, feedback, verdicts, and matched answers — is stored in our database to track your interview practice progress over time. You may request deletion of your session history at any time by contacting us at support@citizenprepai.com.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal data from our servers within 30 days, except where the law requires retention for a longer period.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- Account deletion: you can delete your account directly within the app at Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing support@citizenprepai.com
- Session history deletion: you can request deletion of your AI interview session records by emailing support@citizenprepai.com
- Opt out of tracking: you can withdraw your ad tracking consent at any time in Settings → Privacy → Tracking on your iOS device
- California residents (CCPA): you have the right to know what data we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal data. We will not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights under CCPA.
9. Children's Privacy
CitizenPrep AI is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected data from a minor without verified parental consent, we will delete that information immediately.
10. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of Internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this document will always reflect the most recent version.
